Name some alkalis
lime. Lye.
can you name some other alkalis apart from oven cleaner, soap, toothpaste, moutwash, indigestion medicine and bleach
Or other cleaning products
Bile in the digestive track is a strong alkali
can you name some general things around the house
Not outside the categories you excluded me from: cleaning products and antacids.
Baking soda might not be excluded although I hardly think of soda as an alkali. It is basic and it neutralizes acids. I think of a STRONG base when I use the term alkali.
Hi, thank you for your previous replies. Please can you name some alkalis you find around the house, you can name cleaning products etc - I have put soap, oven cleaner, indigestion tablets, toothpaste and mouthwash. Your help is always appreciated.

Lots of everyday substances contains acids or alkalis:
Acids are found in:
citrus fruits (lemon juice, orange juice)
vinegar
car batteries (sulphuric acid)
your stomach (hydrochloric acid)
Rainwater is a little acidic, but pollution (e.g. sulphur dioxide) from burning fossil fuels may make it even more acidic, forming acid rain.
When acids are present in food, they usually taste sour (think of the taste of lemon juice or vinegar). Strong acids are very dangerous.
Alkalis are found in:
oven cleaner (sodium hydroxide)
soap
cleaning fluid e.g. spray-and-wipe (ammonia)
Notice the connection between these substances? Alkalis are often found in substances for cleaning.
Strong alkali substances are just as dangerous as strong acidic substances, causing very serious burns if they come into contact with your skin.

Your saliva is more of n alkali than an acid, soap is an alkali, baking soda is an alkali, so is washing up liquid, and tap waater can be more of an acid or an alkali depending on the water source, as only pre water is a neutral. Hope this helps. I'm not nice, I'm just clever.
