Lye is sodium hydroxide. Used for clearing drains and the like. Very strong base. Very corrosive to the skin and other body parts.
Ammonia cleaner is a base, not as strong as lye but can still cause extreme pain if allowed to contact open cuts and that kind of thing. Popular as a glass cleaner. Some cleaners have gone away from ammonia and add things called "ammonia D" and other names.
Most of these are low molecular weight organic amines and still smell like ammonia.
Lime, calcium hydroxide, or slaked lime may also be found in the home. You can read about each of these using Google.
