Choose a room you would like to decorate:

2. Choose a size of paper to use.
*I recommend just using a standard 8.5 inch by 11 inch piece of paper. Then fold it diagonally and cut it to make a square.

*Once you cut off the bottom portion of the rectangular, the sides of the square will each be 8.5 inches. If you would like, you can cut 0.5 inch off the top of the square and 0.5 off the right side of the square to make it 8 inches by 8 inches. That is optional.

3. Cut the square in half along the diagonal to form two paper triangles. These will be your pennant flags.

4. Measure the diagonal of the triangle: ____________________________________
Use the Pythagorean Theorem ( a^2+b^2=c^2) to determine the length of the diagonal (hypotenuse):

The answer to the analyze it question is that the Pythagorean Theorem is very precise. But the ruler is not very precise and is basically an estimate of the length of the side.

We are NOT suppose to treat people like trash. The mean something. We may not think of it now, but how will you feel if 30 years from now you find out you cause someone to commit suicide because you always made them feel worthless? I know all who read this will make fun of me or call me annoying, but it is the truth, nothing but the truth. In the "Try it" part of the portfolio, it asks you to measure the length of your diagonal and then use Pythagorean Theorem. Basically, use a tool like a ruler to measure the diagonal first, and after finding that measurement, use Pythagorean Theorem.
Now think, is a ruler always accurate? Yes, it can be close to the real answer, but is it always accurate? Now think of the Pythagorean Theorem. Math is made to be accurate down to the smallest decimal.
So, why is the measurement you made with a ruler, different from the calculation you made with math?
