A horizontal wire that runs east-west carries a steady current to the east. A C-shaped magnet is placed so that the wire runs between the poles, with the north pole above the wire and the south pole below. What direction of the magnetic force on the wire between the poles?

The force will be perpendicular to both the current flow, and the magnetic field. This is into the the diagram, or out of the diagram. Go look up the right hand rule for force, and you will have it.
