Figure skating can be a year-round sport. Indoor rinks make their own ice.

I have known several figure skaters, they are all in, all year. It is a very mental and physically demanding sport, as is gymnastics.

The ice-dancing pair of Tessa Virtue / Scott Moir, world champs in 2010 and 2nd in 2011 practise in a club near me.
Sort of strange to watch them skate in July when the outside temperature is 30° C
