Three Key Events
1. Martha Glimmer lives in the horrible town of Oakgrove. Her two adopted brothers are outcasts in the town of Oakgrove because they have webbed toes and fingers. They all long to leave Oakgrove because her father is extremely depressed due to her mother passing away. Martha wants to leave Oakgrove because the caretaker of the house, Hildy Swoon, doesn’t treat Martha and her friend’s right and her dad doesn’t notice because of his deep depression. They are constantly trying to find a way out of Oakgrove, and are hoping something allows them to leave. They just want to get out of the horrible town of Oakgrove, and will do anything they can to escape.
2. Martha’s wishes come true because of a large flood that tragically went through Oakgrove. Oakgrove then builds a dam, drains all off the swimming pools, and puts extreme limits on water usage per household. Her father finally decides to leave due to these extreme limits on water, but on their way to the new town they got caught in a storm and decided to check in to a motel. Unfortunately, when they were walking to the entrance of the motel, strong winds due to a storm outbreak caused a loose branch to fall and break Martha’s arm forcing them to turn back to Oakgrove and find help. When they return, they find out the Oakgrove dam overflowed and left the city submerged. The boys find out they can swim with ease due to their webbed toes and fingers. They head to the dams drain to release the water, but the city stops them and decides to let the town become a Lake. Martha and the boys are extremely happy that they do not have to move back into this awful town, but become worried as where they are going to live next. Martha finally shows a soft side, and admits she will miss Oakgrove and all of the memories that were left behind with it.
3. As the boys swam back, they noticed a woman with a fish that had an injury caused by a boat propeller. They carry the fish woman back to land and bandage up the wound. The fish woman tells the boys that they are her sons, and that she left them because they were only part fish. The fish woman gives them a conch shell to contact them whenever they are near the ocean. She kisses them goodbye and swims away. Martha’s father decided to rent a large house by the sea, so the boys can visit their mother. They finally have an explanation of why they are such “outcasts” and why they have webbed toes and fingers, and who their biological mother is.

"and her friend’s right" = her friends
"drains all off" OR "drains off all...?"
Because you began in the Present Tense, you should stay there. "decides" they got caught = they get caught? and decide... There are several instances of that
"dams drain" = dam's drain
worried as TO where they are going
