proper notation:
... vertices A(-8, 5), B(-8, -4), C(3, -4), and D(3,5)
If you plot the points, you will notice that AB and CD are vertical lines, (A and B have the same x, same for C and D)
BC and AD are horizontal lines, so it should be easy to see
that the height is 9 and the the base is 11
area = base x height
= 11(9) square units = 99 square units
