assuming a typo for
x^2+7x+12 = 0
x^2 + 7x + (7/2)^2 = -12 + (7/2)^2
(x + 7/2)^2 = 1/4
x + 7/2 = ± 1/2
x = -7/2 ± 1/2
x^2+7x+12 = 0
x^2 + 7x + (7/2)^2 = -12 + (7/2)^2
(x + 7/2)^2 = 1/4
x + 7/2 = ± 1/2
x = -7/2 ± 1/2
