why factor? Just use the quadratic formula. It always works.

is the sameas
16 t^2 - 46 t - 6 = 0
which is
8 t^2 - 23 t - 3 = 0
now factor
is the sameas
16 t^2 - 46 t - 6 = 0
which is
8 t^2 - 23 t - 3 = 0

You can get it by completing the square
a x^2 + b x = -c
x^2 + (b/a) x = -c/a
x^2 + (b/a) x + (b / 2a)^2 = -c/a + (b / 2a)^2
(x+ b/2a)^2 = -c/a + (b / 2a)^2
x+ b/2a = +/- sqrt (-c/a+b^2/4a^2)
x = -b/2a +/- sqrt [ (- 4 c a + b^2 )/4 a^2 ]
= -b/2a +/- (1/2a)sqrt (b^2 - 4 a c)
= [ -b +/- sqrt(b^2 - 4ac) ] / 2a
a x^2 + b x = -c

x^2 + (b/a) x + (b / 2a)^2 = -c/a + (b / 2a)^2
(x+ b/2a)^2 = -c/a + (b / 2a)^2
