multiply both sides of the top one by 3
9 x - 6 y = 0
9 x + 8 y = 7
------------- subtract
0 - 14 y = -7
y = 1/2 and go back for x and get 1/3
9 x - 6 y = 0
9 x + 8 y = 7
------------- subtract
0 - 14 y = -7
y = 1/2 and go back for x and get 1/3
