Sal’s mother wanted to have lots of children. She had a miscarriage and had to undergo hysterectomy to save her life. After that operation, she was told that she could no longer have children. This was depressing for her. She told her husband, "I feel so rotten in comparison." and thus decided to leave to ‘find herself’. She may be leaving for good to figure things out on her own.
