the half-circle of radius 5 has area 12.5 pi = 39.27
The lower box has height 8cm and with equal to the diameter of the circle, or 10, so its area is 10x8 = 80
39.27+80 = 119.27
Maybe I misread the dimensions. I see no valid choice. Anyway, maybe you woked it out right.

The steps are simple.
1. You find the area of the square first- so ignore the blue part for now.
2. Find the area of the circle.
3.Subtract the area of the circle from the area of the square, and what is left are the blue parts.
Step-by-Step explanation:
1. The radius of the circle is 2 in. That is half of one side of the square.
So 4 in is one side of the square. The area of a square is: A = b ^ 2.
So 4 ^ 2 = 16. The area of the square is 16 square inches.
2. Now we need to figure out the area of the circle. The formula is
A = 3.14 * r^2. Plug it in. The radius is 2. 2^2 = 4. So 3.14 * 4= 12.56.
3. Now we need to subtract 12.56 from 16.00. The difference is 3.4.
So the area of the blue portion is 3.4 square inches.
