let the time taken by the westbound plane until they meet be t-1/2 hrs

distance covered by the easbound plane = 700t
distance covered by the westbound plane = 750(t - 1/2)

700t + 750(t-1/2) = 3420
700t + 750t - 375 = 3420
1450t = 3795
t = 2.617 hrs
