How is limestone used to make mortar?

Limestone can be heated in a furnace to convert it to quicklime which can be mixed with water to make lime (calcium hydroxide). Calcium hydroxide cam be mixed with sand and water to make lime mortar. Cement, which contains lime and other ingredients can also be used to make mortar.
