X+1/2y=5.5

-1/8x+1/4y=.25
Using elimination

3 answers

multiply 2nd eqn. by two

subtract from 1st eqn. (to eliminate y)
Multiply the 1st Eq by 2 and the 2nd by 16. Then add:
2x + y = 11
-2x + 4y = 4
Sum: 5y = 15,
Y = 3.

In Eq1, replace y with 3 and solve for x.
