The "measurement" of a TV is based on the length of the diagonal, or the hypotenuse
So if a 25 inch TV has a width of 20, then
l^2 + 20^2 = 25^2
l^2 = 625-400 = 225
l = √225 = 15

Based on the Pythagorean Theorem.
So was I correcdt
... but how would you get 15 by multiplying 20 by the height?
Might you have noticed the new HD screen ratio comparison to its predecessor?

The old screen ratio was 4:3 while the new one is 16:9. That's 4^2/3^2.

The new screen ratio actually results in an 11% reduction in actual screen area.
