I read the short story "I Go Along" by Richard Peck. I must answer: "The title of this story can be interpreted in a number of ways. In multi-paragraph essay form and with reference to the story, explain how the title relates to the story."

I have evidence of "going along" pointed out to myself, but I do not know how to structure and organize my essay.

In other words, can you help me make an outline for my essay- what I should expand on for each of the 3 body paragraphs?

The basic structure for a 5-paragraph essay, which can be altered, depending on how many supporting points (evidence to prove your thesis statement true) you have, is as follows:

I. Introduction with thesis statement at the end.

II. Your second-most important or significant main point.

III. Your third-most important or significant main point.

IV. Your most important or significant main point.

V. Conclusion

My questions for you:
1. What is your thesis statement? (one sentence only, in which you state the main idea you're trying to prove in your paper)

2. What are your points of evidence? You should have at least 3 of them.
I'm not familiar with this story, but what you should think about is points in the story where the protagonist is "going along" in one way or another. And, yes, the title can be interpreted in many ways, so keep that in mind. There are probably at least three ways (your three paragraphs) in which someone "goes along." Just to start your thinking: going with Mom to the store; peer pressure that makes you do what everyone else is doing; proceeding aimlessly (where the wind blows). Think of others as you re-read the story with that in mind.
