My point, exactly. 2phoneee, make sure you know what these literary devices are before you guess. You can look them up on line if you are unclear from materials provided in your textbooks or from lectures. Writeacher has given you sites to use. You can al...

You're right that the stranger is the subject of the sentence, and on questions one and two. but wrong on the others. I see nothing ironic in the first three paragraphs of Chapter 3. And there is no simile in the fact that the stranger recognizes Hester....

Think about it. Three of the options involve one's personal attributes at the moment of creation. One involves study outside one's own self. THINK.

I. don't have a source handy, but I'm sure you can find several that will contend that people who commit murder are not thinking at all about punishment. Murder is a crime of passion, spur of the moment, usually. A robber is threatened by the store clerk...

Oh, I must say that your arguments stated in your question are valid, but make sure you can back them up with some research or philosophical references, etc.

It's easier to understand if you say "No information has been received regarding...", but you're on the right track to make it passive. "Honesty is the best policy" is active, no matter who said it. The third sentence is passive, yes. How would you make i...

Very true, Ms. Sue. The cost to the state for all the appeals that are allowed under law is enormous. The counterargument is that appeals should not be allowed, even if the original verdict was wrong.

And silver has value, so she values the music she hears in nature. I think you are correct.

Take a look at the words at the end of each line. Line one rhymes with line three, line two with line four, etc. So, ABAB. Line five also rhymes with which line? Six with which? It's every other line. ABABCDCD. A is lines one and three, B lines two and fo...

I'm not familiar with a multi-draft reading progress. ??? But all of the questions are valid and need to be asked in reading a poem. If you have read it before, you may already know whose voice is "speaking." Questions B, C and D are very good questions,...

I wish I could help more, too, sam, but "genius" implies creativity. There was a big exhibit of ancient art from the Arabian Peninsula in San Francisco last fall. Now I wish I'd gone to it! Sorry, friend. Ms. Sue may be right in that it may mean benevolen...

What is your objective? What is the assignment?

1 and 2 are correct. 3 could be D or B since, in this context, both mean essentially the same thing. You are correct on all questions, with the exception of the confusing choices on question three. Go with your choice, but I'd accept either B or D.

First, the poet is A. E. Houseman. Get his name right. The poem is untitled and known more formally as XIII from A SHROPSHIRE LAD (1896). If your assignment was to create a story based on the poem's theme, you did so. I'm not sure what your "response" was...

I can make a case for realism. Dialect speech is realism in that is a representation of how people in a specific time and place actually talk. What do you think, Writeacher?

Well, I don't know the source of the quotation, so I must advise that context does make a difference. If the story is a fanciful tale about idealistic views of nature, it could be romanticism, but taken on its own, I still vote for realism. :)
