Do you mean like this? Hydorgenation is when atoms of hydrogen H2 are added to the carbons in a double or triple bond of alkenes or alkynes to form what we call alkanes. More or less attaches to one of the carbon atoms in a double and OH-attaches to the other carbon atom of the alkene H2O or HOH help to form the hydration reactions when added to the hydrocarbons. When adding water to an alkene, the hydrogen adds to one carbon of the double bond while OH adds to the other carbon of the double bond.

Well since its an oval, just subtract the bigger/outer oval from the inner/smaller oval to get the area of the track I think. Area of oval = Pi * A * B; where A is the length from the center to the longer side of the the oval and B is the length from the center to the opposing side. If that makes sense? not completely sure though.

the theme is thoughts of elderly? This poem seems confusing.. it is either really easy and literal or metaphoric..
I think the last stanza is saying how its kinda of sad not knowing what the life of an elderly was like and their perspective on death whether with "hope, or resignation, or despair?" It kinda gives off a lonely, pensive, and depressing atmosphere because they look like they are living a passive life and the juxtaposition of "half sleeping, half awake" sharply contrasts their surroundings of youngsters "rushing eagerly to some scene of life". So I guess it shows that no matter how calm and boring the elderly seem, you can never know what is really there?
