I need to know about Columbia in America. Like the D.C.'s and how the space shuttle Columbia got her name.

Columbia is taken from the name, Christopher Columbus, the supposed discoverer of America. Of course, the native Americans were here for thousands of years before Columbus "found" this land. Columbus was the first European to publicize his discoveries.
