I have to write something as if I were giving advice to my little sister using the words llevar, salir, ponerse, hacer, and decir to join with the words un regalo, comida, temprano, ropa bonita, and gracias. Can you tell me if I wrote it correctly? Because I TOTALLY do not get the whole idea of the reflexive verb thing and with affirmative tu commands and all this stuff.

"Lleva un regalo. No salgas temprano. Ponas ropa bonita. Haz una comida. Di gracias."

Thank you for using the Jiskha Homework Help Forum. What you are using are the forms of the tú/affirmative familiar command.

regular -ar verbs, drop the -ar infinitive ending and add -a (lleva)
regular -er verbs, drop the -er and add -e (come)
regular -ir verbs, drop the -ir and add -e (vive)

irregular verbs with an irregular "yo" form (pongo), like (poner), are simply (pon / no pongas)
hacer and decir are totally irregular = haz / di

However, you not only have poner, but ponerse, which is a reflexive verb. All your forms are correct except "Pónte."

Oh ok! I get it. Thanks so much Sra!!
I have another question...How would I use the verb "ir" in a sentence such as "Don't go to the park"? I know the irregular form is "ve", but I don't know how to use it as a negative tu command.
Good Question on "ir" which is irregular.

tú command = ve / BUT no vayas
Ud. command = vaya / AND no vaya
Uds. command = vayan / AND no vayan
BUT "nosotros" "let's form" = vamos (vámonos for irse) / no vayamos (no nos vayamos)
