MY opinion. They have no relevance to the preservation of childhood.

How parents take responsibility for raising a child is what makes "childhood". If parents provide a secure home, encouragement to grow and learn responsibly, an example of concern for others who occupy this world with us, honesty and integrity, then a child will grow into a well rounded adult capable of making a positive contribution to society.
