Yes, that looks like biased media coverage.
I'd call it a "feature story". Celebrity gossip is for the tabloids, but "mainstream" media increasingly does that kind of story, too. "Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have adopted another child." Such stories may be biased (being critical or in praise), but not necessarily.
