a gas volume has of v1=450ml. if the temp is held constant, what volume would gas occupy if the pressure p2=2p1?

omg i cant figure anything out!!!!!!!!

P1V1 = P2V2.
Just make up a number for P1. Call it anything, say 10 atm.
Then P1 = 10 atm
V1 = 450 mL
P2 = 2*P1 = 2*10 = 20 atm.
V2 = ??
It makes it a much simpler problem if you do that. You CAN (but I think it makes it harder) just use
P1 = P1
V1 = 450 mL
P2 = 2*P1
V2 = ??
Then P1*450 = 2*P1*V2
Solving for V2 gives
V2 = P1*450/(2*P1) = 450/2 = 225 mL. You see the P1 cancels which is WHY we can use any number we choose and it doesn't matter which number we choose.
Doing it the other way gives us
10*450=20*V2
V2 = 10*450/20
V2 = 4500/20 = 225 mL.
