For a motor vehicle travelling at r miles per hour, the distance d in feet required to stop at approximately d=0.05r^2+r. If a school bus is traveling at 45mph how many feet to, the nearest foot,would it travel before coming to a halt.

d = 0.05r^2 + r
Substitute r = 45:
d = 0.05(45)^2 + 45
d = 101.25 + 45
d = 146.25 ft
To the nearest foot,
d = 146 ft
