The total charge for a taxi ride includes an initial fee of $2.75 plus $2.25 for every 1/2 mile traveled. Joe took a taxi, and the ride cost him $56.75. How would this be put in a equation? Show your work.

if he rode x miles, then that's 2x half-miles

2.75 + 2.25(2x) = 56.75

That's if you want to find out how many miles the ride was.
