I understand your work now. However, when i divided 12100 by pi i got 3851.549623. If i rounded it would be 3852 m instead of 3845 m.
How would the area be 3845 m^2 is the cicumference is 220 m?
Wouldn't you divide 9 by 2 and get 4.5, then divide 4.5 by 6 and get 0.75 as my answer for the length of each piece of the 12 pieces of wood?

Yes, so when i explain how i determine my answer i would say "the addend would have to be a negative of the positive addend to equal 0" right?
