Hello! I am confused on how to do this math problem. Can you please help me or explain how you get this answer please?

Miriam orders a shipment of 1, 500 pounds of ice for her supermarket. The ice comes in individual 5-pound bags that cost Miriam orders$2.50 each.

Miriam sells the bags for 30% more than her cost.

How much profit, in dollars, will Miriam's supermarket earn from the sale of 1 shipment of ice?

5 lbs per bag...

How bags will you have? 1500/5 = 300 bags

how much does she pay for the 300 bags?

Can you do this step?

If so, the next step is just multiplying that answer by .3 to find the profit.

Would I divide 300 by 2.50?

Is the answer $84?
Answered by JJ
It costs $2.50 per bag and you have 300 bags. You have to multiply them. Does that make sense?
Answered by Megan
Then the answer is the$750?
Answered by Jessica
Ok this is what I did. 5÷1500 got 300. Took 300×2.50 got 750. Subtracted 120-36 got 84. Then, I took 750×.3 and got $225. Ibdon't know if that's the answer or what. This is just confusing.

Thanks Jessica? But I don't know

1500 divided by 5 = 300
You wrote that step backwards.

300 X 2.50 = 750
Why did you subtract 120 and 36?? that isn't needed?

Multiply 750 x .3 is correct $225 is the answer.

What part is confusing.

if you have 1500 lbs and each bag weighs 5 lbs. YOU must have 300 lbs.

right? Check 300 x 5 = 1500 lbs

If each bag costs $2.50 and you buy 300 bags you spend $750.

If she sells them for 30% more than the cost. You have to find what 30% is of the cost. so.. .30 times $750 = $225 profit

She will sell the bags for a total of $975 with $750 being what she spent and $225 being the profit.
