sqrt5 -1/x = sqrt5/2

i cross multiplied and i got 3.5= 2.23x
is that right?

well, since √5 = 2.235, it looks like you cross-multiplied and ended up with

√5+1 = √5/2 x (almost)

So, either there is a typo, or you got + and - mixed up.

The next question is, did you mean

(√5-1)/x = √5/2

or

√5 - (1/x) = √5/2

??
