I am getting the wrong answer. Can you please check my work? My answer is off by a multiple of ten.
A sample of an unknown material appears to weigh 295 N in air and 165 N when immersed in alcohol of specific gravity 0.700.
(a) What is the volume of the material?
___________m^3
(b) What is the density of the material?
____________ kg/m3
295N-165N=130N
F=pVg
130N=(.700)V(9.8m/s^2)
V=18.93
F=mg
295N=m(9.8)
m=30.10kg
pV=m
p(18.93)=30.10
p=1.59kg/m^3

a. Wa = 295 - 165 = 130 N. = Wt. of alcohol displaced = Buoyancy force.
F = m*g = 130.
m = F/g = 130 / 9.8 = 13.27 kg = Mass
of alcohol displaced.
Da / Dw = 0.7.
Da=0.7Dw = 0.7 * 1000kg/m^3=700 kg/m^3.=
Density of alcohol.
Dw = Density of water.
Vm=Va=13.27kg * 1m^3/700kg=0.018957 m^3
= Vol. of material = Vol. of alcohol.
b. Dm = mass/Vm.
Wm = m*g = 295 N. = Wt. of material.
mass = 295/9.8 = 30.1 kg.
Dm = 30.1/0.018957 = 1588 kg/m^3. =
Density of material.
