Can someone assist help me with the following?

Simplify the expression:

6-(8+3i)

The answer is -2-3i, but I do not understand why.

Think of the -sign outside of the parantheses as a -1. So, you need the distributive law and multiply -1 x 8 =
-8. Then -1 x 3i = -3i.

So you have 6 + (-8) + (-3i)

-2 - 3i

Oh, thank you! That makes lots of sense. :)

you're welcome!
