When we add or subtract fractions, we must use equivalent fractions with a common denominator.
12/5 = 156/65
8/13 = 40/65
Add the numerators:
156/65 + 40/65 = 196/65
Simplify
196/65 = 3 1/65
12/5 = 156/65
8/13 = 40/65
Add the numerators:
156/65 + 40/65 = 196/65
Simplify
196/65 = 3 1/65

12/5+8/13 the denominators have to equal the same so you mult. 5 times 13 and 13 times 5 and the numerators too
156/65+40/65=196/65
156/65+40/65=196/65
