How do two fractions have a sum of exactly 1

well, easy
think of some
1/2 + 1/2 = 2/2 = 1
1/3 + 2/3 = 3/3 = 1
sum of tops must equal denominator when denominators are the same
that means you need to put them over a common denominator, but you have to do that to add them anyway.

1 pizza
Cut into two equal pieces and you have 1/2 + 1/2 = 1
Cut into three equal pieces and you have 1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3 = 1
Cut it into two unequal pieces, you may have 1/4 + 3/4 = 1
