recall that the slope, m, is given by the equation,
m = (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1)
where
(x1, y1) = coordinates of first point
(x2, y2) = coordinates of second point
substituting,
m = (1 - 6)/(-3 - 5)
m = (-5)/(-8)
m = 5/8
