3 x^2 = 27 divide both sides by 3
x^2 = 9
x = + or - sqrt (9)
x = +3 or x=-3
2t2power=100
2 t^2 = 100
t^2 = 50
t^2 = 5*5*2
t = + or - 5 sqrt (2)
-4y2power=36
y^2 = -9
y = + or - 3 sqrt (-1)
sqrt (-1) is usually called i or sometimes j
so
y = + or - 3 i
