The ocean's level is currently rising at about 1.5 mm per year. At this rate, in how many years will sea level be 3 meters higher than now?

This seems like it should be a simple question but the change in measurements is confusing me.

there are 1000 mm in a meter. So the set up would be

3000mm/1.5mm

meaning it would take 2000 years.

but the crisis is current, and 2,000 years is a long time. So, why are we worrying about dying to this now?
