I am having trouble with two problems. I can't seem to get a solid solution to either one of them.

3/y+5 + 6/7y add and simplify

5-r/8-r = 3/r-8 solve

Can someone help me please? Thanks so much.

3/y+5 + 6/7y add and simplify

Perhaps you mean
3/(y+5) + 6/7y
multiply top and bottom of both by
(7y)(y+5)

3(7y)/[7y(y+5)] + 6(y+5)/[7y(y+5)]

[21y + 6y +30]/[7y^2+35y]

[27y+30]/[7y^2+35y]
=========================
5-r/8-r = 3/r-8 solve
parentheses as follows?
(5-r)/(8-r) = -3/(8-r)
multiply both sides by (8-r)
5-r = -3
r = 8
