how do i do a problem like this and other problems like this:

Write an equation in point-slope form of the line that passes through the given point and has the given slope.

(-8,-2) M=2

y is -2
slope (m) is 2
x is -8.
Plug in the numbers. Solve for b.
Then write y = 2x + (value for b)

You are right. I gave you the slope intercept form.
y-y1 = m(x-x1)
y+2=2(x+8).
I don't know if your prof wants that expanded or not. This becomes
y = 2x + 14 in the slope intercept form so both equations are the same.
