you want to get x all by its self.
subtract the x from both sides to give
2x-3=-4
add 3 to both sides
2x=-1
divide by 2 to isolate the x
x = -1/2

As he said, he subtracted x from both sides of the equation.
3x - x = 2x
3x - x = 2x
