can you please explain when you would use una vs la.

I am getting confused as to which to use and in what context.

una means one in a female verse by the a in the end, so instead of saying un mesa the correct way is una mesa.La means "the" also in a female verse.
Ex. The correct way of use is
La casa
instead of El casa.
