the width of a rectangle is one half its length. the perimeter of the rectangle is 54cm. what are the width and length of the rectangle.

let y be the width

y=1/2x

2x+2y=54

substitute-> 2x+2(1/2x)=54

2x+x=54
3x=54
x=18

since the width is half the length

18/2= 9
y=9
