Actually the word "doña" comes from the Latin word "domina" which means lady.
In Portuguese this title is equivalent to Mrs or Maam and placed before a namne to indicate respect.
In Spanish, the term is "honorific" or a courtesy title or form of address for a woman, placed in front of her first name.
