Give the equation of the line that passes through point (5, 1) and is parallel to the line y = 3x – 1.

slope of the line will be same to that of the given line i.e. 3
Now let the eq. be
y -3x = m (where m is any parameter)
this line passes through (5,1) therfore satisfying it we get m = -14
thus, eq. of required line is
y =3x -14
