Question
Find the minimum volume of hot water needed to dissolve 100 mg of salicylic acid. Can someone help me how to start this out? I would greatly appreciate it.
The data is
[temp] [amount of salicylic acid per 100 ml water, g]
0 0.10
10 0.13
25 0.23
50 0.63
75 1.8
90 3.7

Answers
If you call hot water 90 degrees C, then
100 mL H2O x (0.10 g/3.7g)= ??
100 mL H2O x (0.10 g/3.7g)= ??
Then the minimum volume of hot water then is 2.70mL
That's what I get. I don't know what your prof calls hot water but the minimum volume of water, of course, is at the highest temperature.
Yea my prof was not very clear or did not clarify what hot water would be. Thanks for the help.
Can somebody explain the reasoning behind the math calculation?
