It said M is "in the middle of the line" so AM = AN
7x + .1 = 5
7x = 4.9
x = 4.9/7 = .7
so AM = 7x + .1 = 4.9 + .1 = 5 , looks good, since AM = AN
and that would make MN = 10
but we are told 10x - .2
= 7 - .2 = 6.8
So there is a contradiction in the problem, and it is bogus
btw, there was no question asked, and how the "robot" got 1.7 is beyond me.

If so
7x +.1 + 10 x - .2 = 5
17 x = 5.1
x = 5.1 / 17 = 0.3
AM =2.4
MN = 2.8
If so
7x +.1 + 10 x - .2 = 5
17 x = 5.1
x = 5.1 / 17 = 0.3
AM =2.4
MN = 2.8
