    Let the number of puzzles solved be n
5n + 50(n/8) = 840
5n + 25n/4 = 840
20n + 25n = 3360
45n = 3360
n = 74.6666... , was expecting a whole number.
and n should be a multiple of 8
if n = 72 puzzles, points earned
= 72(5) + 50(72/8) = 810
if n = 80 puzzles, points earned
= 5(80) + 80/8 (50) = 900
no way he can get 840 points.
Either I am not reading the question correctly or else the question
is flawed.
