How much did Aaron start with?
Aaron spent 3/7 of his money. He gave ¼ of the remainder to his sister. He had $120 left. How much money did he have in the beginning? Explain how you got your answer.
The way you solved this problem was wrong.Aaron did not start out with 3/7 you have to work bacwards in the problem and that is what is confusing me

He spent 3/7 which left him with 4/7 !!!
7/7 - 3/7 = 4/7
then he gave away 1/4 of his 4/7
1 - 1/4 = 3/4
so he is left with
4/7 * 3/4
7/7 - 3/7 = 4/7
then he gave away 1/4 of his 4/7
1 - 1/4 = 3/4
so he is left with
4/7 * 3/4

he started with x
he spent 3/7 of x
then he had 4/7 of x left
he then gave his sister 1/4 of 4/7 of x
so he was left with 3/4 of 4/7 of x
that is 120
so
3/4 * 4/7 * x = 120
3/7 * x = 120
x = 40*7 = 280
===========================
NOW spend 3/7 * 280 = 120
280 - 120 = 160 left
now give your sister 1/4 of the 160 or 40
left with 160 - 40 = 120
sure enough
Believe it yet ?
