I think i have to divid both sides by x giving x^3=4 but am not sure what I need to do next.

That is what you DO but not what you GET after dividing both sides by x. You get
x^2 = 4
That leads to x = +/- 2.
Since x is a factor of
x(x+2)(x-2) = 0,
x=0 is a third solution
x^2 = 4
That leads to x = +/- 2.
