From the sketch that you made, it is obvious that
-4 + 2x - (x+1) = 5
-4 + 2x - x - 1 = 5
x = 5+4+1
x = 10
-4 + 2x - (x+1) = 5
-4 + 2x - x - 1 = 5
x = 5+4+1
x = 10
