mark off 6 cm with your compass
now construct a triangle with sides of 6 cm

(draw arcs on either end of the 6 cm line, mark their intersection,
join the end points to that mark. You now have an equilateral triangle
with sides 6 cm each. All 3 angles must be equal, 360°/3 = 60° )
